Admin - Publishing - HTMLZIP
PUBLISHING OVERVIEW
PlayerLync provides a method for publishing self-contained, rich, interactive websites to end-users that can be navigated offline with no internet access required. These offline sites provide a custom "web app" like experience right inside your PlayerLync mobile application. Think of it as an entire website that's fully contained within PlayerLync. We call this process HTMLZIP.
WHAT IS HTMLZIP?
Plainly put, HTMLZIP is a website built with HTML that's then zipped and published in PlayerLync to provide an offline website. These container zip files include all the elements of a website to provide a typical web browsing experience offline. They support rich media (images and videos), javascript, CSS, design elements, navigation and much more. You can use an HTML site to point to PlayerLync content as well as external content (providing the device has internet access).
HOW DO I CREATE AN HTMLZIP?
What you are really creating is a website that is then exported as a .ZIP package. As long as your folder contains an index.html file in the root or main folder, PlayerLync will identify that as a site and perform the conversion. There are many drag and drop authoring tools available for creating HTML sites without needing to know any coding at all. PlayerLync does not promote one tool over another or have a preference, though below are a couple of example platforms we believe have an easy to use interface and work well for this purpose...
PineGrow: https://www.pinegrow.com
NicePage: https://www.nicepage.com
Those platforms provide an interface to design and craft your self-contained website. Once your design is complete, the platforms provide a way to export the package as a ZIP file. All you have to do is publish that resulting file to your PlayerLync Admin Portal and we'll take care of the rest! (the image on the left shows the files contained in an example HTMLZIP)
Apple Keynote: Exports presentations as as HTML and provides a folder with assets and an Index.html file. All you have to do is zip up (compress) those items and publish the resulting .zip file. (https://www.apple.com/keynote/)
PUBLISHING HTMLZIP
Publishing is VERY simple. Drag-and-drop through the PlayerLync Admin Portal as you would with any other piece of content. When you upload the .ZIP file PlayerLync will scan the file and see it's an HTML package. Once identified we convert it to .HTMLZIP and make it usable as a web app. (example on right)

IMPORTANT NOTES
Updates made to information in the self-contained site will need a complete re-publish. PlayerLync will not automatically pull down and update any HTMLZIP content.
Must be self-contained and not require resources such as images or videos from external sources if internet access is not available.
Content inside of your PlayerLync environment CAN be linked to in the self-contained file, but must be published and accessible to the Member viewing the HTMLZIP package.
