SERVER RELEASES

Regular Server Maintenance occurs Tuesday nights between 7:30pm and 10pm MT.  Note that this window represents a range when maintenance may occur and does not represent the duration of the maintenance or outage.  PlayerLync staff is responsible for performing maintenance and will notify you should you be required.  Generally speaking, we’ll handle it for you.

PlayerLync adheres to a best practice Agile Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) process.  The overall goal is to allow PlayerLync to adapt to change and deliver working software as quickly possible.  This process promotes a disciplined process that encourages frequent inspection and adaptation, resulting in rapid delivery of high-quality software.

For purposes of this document, PlayerLync categorizes its server software releases into three general buckets.  Patch Releases, Minor Releases, Major Releases and Emergency Hot Fix releases. PlayerLync has a remaining category for general server and systems maintenance.

PATCH RELEASES

These are mainly bug/hot fix releases that are localized in size and changes.  These releases are typically kept small in scope to ensure focused development and QA.  They are also the most common release PlayerLync has.

DETAILS

  • Releases are agile/fluid and don’t follow a traditional waterfall product roadmap
  • These will not include changes to the database
  • No changes to API’s
  • Release goes to vast majority of clients
  • May or may not occur regularly
  • If required, deployments occur during Tuesday night maintenance windows

EXPECTATIONS OF CUSTOMER

  • Brief outage of Hosted server

  • Enjoy improvements post release

MINOR & MAJOR RELEASES

Releases that extend beyond a localized change or are introducing new roadmap features.  These releases may include bug/hot fixes like a Dot Release but will also include new feature functionality.

DETAILS

  • Typically follows a more traditional product roadmap
  • Releases are more scheduled/planned, with prior notification
  • Release Notes will accompany upgrade
  • Major releases may also go through several dot releases prior to being made GA (General Availability)
  • Once deemed GA, all other customers will be brought forward to latest Major Release version
  • Occurs during Tuesday maintenance window
  • May include database changes
  • May introduce new/extended functionality to API’s

IMPACT OR EXPECTATION OF CUSTOMER

  • Customer may be part of initial beta customer list [see definition below]
  • Brief outage of Hosted server
  • Enjoy improvements post release

CRITICAL HOT FIX

Of course, PlayerLync will always do what is necessary for our clients, but in the event a critical issue occurs PlayerLync is prepared to make changes to a customer’s hosted environment outside of the release maintenance windows.  Depending on the critical nature, the client may be alerted prior to changes, and/or after.

IMPACT OR EXPECTATION OF CUSTOMER

  • Brief outage of Hosted server
  • Enjoy improvements post release

BETA CUSTOMERS

Select group of customers that are willing to test new/early versions of the PlayerLync products prior to general release.  Feature functionality will typically be items those customers specifically asked for, have been waiting for or are very interested in.
