Enabling and Configuring Shared Library
SHARED LIBRARY
The Shared Library module in PlayerLync provides a way to present files (documents and videos) to your Members without the files automatically downloading and taking up storage space on the device. This allows them an option to go retrieve those files as they are needed and when the Member has storage space available.
ENABLING SHARED LIBRARY
In order to use the Shared Library module in PlayerLync, first you must enable it under the Global Settings section of Team Manager. Once enabled, you can name the module whatever makes sense to your organization. (Some examples include “Shared Library”, “On-Demand”, “File Repo”, etc.)
CONFIGURING SHARED LIBRARY
There are a few setup procedures you will need to walk through before uploading content for your Members to download on their devices. Let’s start by logging into the Admin Portal and navigating to Team Manager.
- Navigate to the Shared Library tab after you have enabled the module in Settings
- Click the Manager button to see your Shared Library folder structure (Note: In the beginning you will only see the “Library” folder – this is expected)
- Right-click on the Library folder to expose a context menu with options for adding to the folder structure or even uploading your existing folders and files. Try to enter as much of your folder structure now as it will save you time later in the setup.
- Once you have added your structure, navigate to the Settings button then “Manage Roles” where you will need to add Member roles. These are a way to separate the content that is displayed based on the type of Member.
- Now navigate to the Mappings button. Here you will be able to create tabs to separate your folder structures should you want to do that.
- Select “PlayerLync” from the base path drop-down.
- Name your tab
- Enter the path to the level in the folder structure you want to map that tab to. The top level is “Library” and you do not need to enter that - only levels below Library. If you want a tab to have access to the entire library, then level the folder path field blank. If you want to give the tab access to a second level you would start with the name of that folder, not Library. (Example: If your levels are Library then Folder A under it, you would simply type “Folder A” in the folder path field. If you wanted to go to another folder inside of Folder A, you might enter something like “Folder A\Folder 2”. This would put the root of that tab access at Folder 2.)
- Click Save Mappings
- Select “PlayerLync” from the base path drop-down.
- Next you’ll need to go to the Assignments button where you will select a role from the Assign Mappings drop-down. This will allow you to assign tabs to that specific role in the below drop-down. Keep adding mappings until you have assigned all tabs to the roles you want to have setup. This step exposes your selected folder structure(s) to a tab.
- You are now setup to start uploading content to the folder structure you created in step 3. Let’s navigate back to the Manager button. You can now expand your structure using the arrows then right click on the destination folder name to upload content to that location.
- If you didn’t finish creating your downstream folder structure in step 3, go ahead and do that now.
- Once your folders are ready, you can right-click on a folder name to upload files from your computer.
